Voicemail takes it to the ‘Next Level’
International music duo Voicemail is set to launch their fourth album and according to member Craig Jackson, most successful album to date.
The duo have been enjoying steady success both locally and abroad over the past few years. The group who are known for hits such as Weh Di Time , Wacky Dip and Ready To Party suffered a major blow in 2010 when they lost member O’Neil Edwards, who was murdered following a robbery. Since then remaining members Craig Jackson and Kevin Blaire have carried on the musical legacy of the group known not only their soulful distinct style, but also for heralding some of the famous dance moves which featured in their music videos.
The group has seen success with their previous three albums Hey (2006), Let’s Go (2007) Jump off (2008) and are now set to release a fourth. In a recent interview with Dimusichub Craig stated that the album titled ‘Next Level’ has been a work in progress for the past 3 years. Work on the album started when former member O’neil met a fan of the group Michael Fredenburg from Germany, who was starting his own label at the time and wanted to do some work with the group. They started working on some singles which has eventually turned into an album. Craig said he thinks this is the best album they have done so far; ”The album is wicked, mind blowing, it’s an eclectic mix of music from genres that both Kevin and I love such as house, Rnb, Dancehall and Reggae. We have always been a global group who think outside the box, and make music that not only appeal to Jamaicans but which will appeal on a global level.”
Fans can look forward to singles like I Got Love and Wrong Number ( feat Alaine) to be featured on the album. There is no official release date for the album which is produced by The Titians, an urban music song writing and production team from Stuttgart, Germany. But a recent release from the group stated that Voicemail’s album Next Level is getting the final mix from the Grammy Award Mix Engineer and Producer Gary Noble, who has worked with acts such as Amy Winehouse and The Fugees.
Voicemail has recently been working with Push A Yute Productions, an Indi. music label based in Jamaica and the UK. Among the productions expecting to released from this musical partenrship, is a single titled F….king you(raw version), Touching you (clean version). Not wanting to give too much away , Craig said the inspiration for the single came after watching an ‘adult movie’, he said he likes to write from a realistic perspective which allows him to express how he feels through his music. He describes the song as tastefully sexy and said this is definitely one for ‘grown folks’.
The single is expected to premier on local radio sometime this week, with a music video already in pre production.
